Heating Loads, Cooling Loads, and Energy Use

This project was for my Principles of HVAC class. My Peer and I used eQUEST to calculate the heating loads, cooling loads, and energy usage of a standard single story office building. All of the calculations were also done by hand and compared to the results that eQUEST returned.

We considered how heat is gained and lost through the walls, roof, windows and doors, the ground and through infiltration.

Simulations were run in eQUEST to test the effectiveness of different methods of energy conservation and total energy usage was determined.

Yet to come:

This semester I have two classes where I will be using eQuest.

  • In my Building Energy Modeling class with Dr. Webb we are using eQuest to evaluate building energy performance with whole building energy simulation

  • In my HVAC Systems 1 class we will be completing the design of a commercial HVAC system. We will be performing energy and load analysis using the building energy simulation software tools eQuest, Trace 700, and/or EnergyPlus.
